Did You Know That...
Diego Rivera was a famous Mexican artist known for his murals. Born in 1886, he painted throughout the early and mid-1900's until he passed away in 1957. Rivera's murals are found in many cities including Mexico City, San Francisco, Detroit and New York.
A 22 mi (36 km) bridge, the longest bridge in China, is the Hangzhou Bay Bridge. A cable-stayed bridge, it crosses the Qiantang River on the East China sea and carries six lanes of traffic in each direction.
Braille, the raised dot system of reading and writing used by blind persons, was invented in the early 1800s by Louis Braille when he was 15-years old. Louis Braille became completely blind when he was five.
During the late 1950s in Winnipeg, Canada, the city planned to cut down a huge elm tree to make way for a street. It was saved by a group of women who surrounded it with locked arms. The tree was known as the "Worseley Elm", after the neighbourhood it was located in.
