Did You Know That...

The ballroom dance called the waltz was introduced in Europe in 1813; but, probably existed as a "waltz" as early as 1781. In the 1850's in Vienna, composer Johann Strauss produced scores of new waltzes to meet the growing demand for music to accompany the dancers.

When people see dandelions on a lawn, many think of them as pesky weeds. However, these plants are actually beneficial as their roots encourage nutrients in the soil to rise which helps to fertilize other plants with shallower roots. Young dandelion leaves are extremely nutritious and make a good salad green. Dandelions also make a mighty fine wine.

The Cosmopolitan Sailfish is believed to be the fastest fish in the ocean moving at 60 mph (95 km). That's a lot faster than a strong human swimmer who can only swim at 1.2 - 1.8 mph (2 - 3 km).

It's said that in their contracts, the members of the pop band, Blondie, always include one unusual clause. It states that no other musical group with a blond take the stage before them at concerts.
