Smokey the cat has roared her way into Guinness World Records having achieved the loudest purr by a domestic cat.
Guinness says the grey-and-white tabby in Northampton, England earned her place with record-setting 67.7 decibels. In a video on the cat's website, the 12-year-old, ordinary-size feline purrs with a sound akin to the cooing of an angry dove.
Smokey first rose to prominence in February, when her owner, Ruth Adams, ran a local competition for the most powerful purr. A community college recorded the purr and submitted it to Guinness.
Guinness says the loudest animal sounds are the low-frequency pulses made by blue whales and fin whales when they communicate with each other — sounds that reach 188 decibels. By comparison, a lawnmower is 90 decibels.

Anyone else remember Imelda Marcos and HER shoes? It has been said that you can never have too many shoes; but, you can have more shoes than anyone else in the world. Now, I'm not sure whether having a collection this size says about your personality; but, Darlene Flynn has taken shoe collecting to a new high.
Darlene Flynn has been recognized as a Guinness World Record holder for the largest collection of shoe-related items with 7,765 pieces of shoe memorabilia. Flynn, 51, began collecting everything and anything shoe-related six years ago when she borrowed the idea from a relative. It would appear; however, that the relative never mentioned how much is enough.
It all started with 28 shoe figurines.

"I don't know why it had to be shoes," she said. "I just love them and it kind of got out of control." Yup!
Her collection includes the 100 pairs of shoes she wears herself, plus wooden shoes, cloth shoes, antique shoes and even shoes made from ash from Mount St. Helens.
Her goal: To live in a shoe-shaped house....wait..wasn't that the old lady with all those kids.
I'm fortunate to have several passions in my life. I am absolutely an eco-nut. I am always trying to find new ways to reduce, reuse, recycle. We, as a species, have done more harm to this planet in the short time we have been here, than any other catastrophe or happening ever has. It's up to us to fix it.
I care about the environment whether it is as small as a single cell or as large as the universe.
I adore creativity and think we can all do more with much less. This earth has enough resources for us all to live comfortably if we all learn to share. Wasn't that a lesson we were supposed to learn in kindergarten?
